WAS

When I become was and we become were...

the memory of your face

" When I become was and we become were Will there be any sign ar a trace of th'loverly contour of your face..." The portraits of deceased are printed onto these handkerchiefs. Some of them are depicted sharp, others vague, the longer ago it is the more vague the portait. This symbolises the sorrow that also fades throughout the years. The handkerchiefs give comfort, they absorb the tears of sorrow. An inspiration for me was the song 'Was' by Mose Allison. Not all of the handkerchiefs are printed, about a quarter of them is empty; these are reserved for those who will one day pass away.
